Certification: what exists, and what does not
The LEGO Group released the method under an open source licence (Creative Commons) in 2010. There is therefore no single official certificate issued by the LEGO Group. What does exist is a mature market of training providers, where you go through the core process, the application techniques and facilitate under supervision — typically over 2–4 days.
What clients actually buy is not the certificate, but the ability to design the right building question and hold the room when the conversation turns honest. That is where the training pays off.

The model speaks — not the person. A facilitator never interprets someone else's model.

The follow-up work is where the time disappears
Most facilitators know the evening after the workshop: 200 photos on the phone, pages of notes, and a client waiting for a report. How do you become a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator?+
The method was released under an open source licence in 2010, so there is no single official certificate from the LEGO Group. In practice, facilitators are trained on 2–4 day courses with established providers, where you go through the core process yourself — skills building, application techniques and facilitating real questions — and facilitate under supervision.
Is a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® certification necessary?+
Not legally, but in practice yes. The core process (build — tell — reflect) looks simple and goes wrong when facilitated without training: participants build illustrations instead of metaphors, and the facilitator starts interpreting the models. Training gives you question design, ethics and the routine to hold the room.
Which brick sets do you use?+
The official sets are the Starter Kit (short sessions and skills building), the Exploration Bag (one bag per participant, good for larger groups), and Identity & Landscape and Connections for longer programmes. Many experienced facilitators add their own loose parts — especially figures, animals, wheels and transparent bricks, which open up metaphors.
What does an LSP facilitator earn?+
Day rates in Denmark typically fall between DKK 15,000 and 40,000 depending on preparation, group size, language and follow-up work. Reporting and follow-through are often what separates a fee at the low end from one at the high end.
